Egypt Residency by Investment
Through Your Company

For most business owners, Egypt residency by investment means investor residence through an Egyptian company you own or manage. As of October 2026 it is renewable for the life of the project, and its holders need no work permit. The real work is the company behind it: the right form for Sharm El Sheikh, and filings that stay current.

02Process

How an investor residence file runs

Six stages, from the first conversation to the renewal. Times are stated service times or reported ranges, never promises.

  1. 01

    Check the route first

Your nationality, entry status, company and location decide the route. If property or work suits you better, we say so before you spend anything.

Before you set up or file

  2. 02

    Put the company in place

A new company in the form your location requires, or a review of yours. GAFI's file includes security-inquiry forms for every foreign founder and manager; advance clearance is reported for some nationalities.

1–2 weeks reported once documents are ready

  3. 03

    Tax and payroll registrations

Tax card, VAT where the turnover or activity requires it, e-receipts if you sell to consumers in Sharm El Sheikh, and social and health insurance for staff.

Right after the Commercial Register entry

  4. 04

    Build the residence file

Your passport, the company's registration papers and proof of your role in it. The fees are paid from hard currency converted through a bank; under the 2023 rules the receipt could be no more than 15 days old.

Pay close to the filing date

  5. 05

    Book and file

Appointments are booked on the Interior Ministry portal, eres.moi.gov.eg. In Sharm El Sheikh, Google Maps lists the Police Complex (المجمع الشرطي) as the passport and visa office.

Check the office hours before you go

  6. 06

    Notify, then renew

Labour Law 14/2025 requires foreigners exempt from the permit to be notified within 7 days of starting work and of ending it. The residence is then renewed for as long as the project runs.

Every renewal, while the project lasts

As of October 2026. GAFI states 1 working day for in-person incorporation of a one-person company or JSC; forming the company and gathering papers usually take longer than the residence filing itself.

FAQ

Questions about investor residency in Egypt

Who qualifies for an Egypt investor visa or residence permit?

As of October 2026, investor residence is for foreigners who own or manage an Egyptian company, as a partner, shareholder or appointed manager. The file proves that the company is registered and that you hold a real role in it. The passport office confirms the current requirements at application, and we check them against your company first.

How long is an Egyptian investor residence valid?

Investor residence is renewable for the life of the project under a May 2023 regulation, as of October 2026. Each permit runs for a set term and is renewed while the company behind it still stands. That makes the company's own compliance, from tax returns to the Commercial Register, part of every renewal.

Do I need a work permit if I hold investor residence?

No. As of October 2026, holders of investor residence are exempt from the work-permit requirement. Labour Law 14/2025 still requires foreigners exempt from the permit to be notified within 7 days of starting work and within 7 days of ending it. Foreign staff you hire are different: each needs a permit, within the foreign-staff limits.

Is there an Egypt visa by investment, and how much do I need to invest?

We do not publish a figure. Amounts quoted online for investor residence are not confirmed by an official text we can cite, so we check the current requirement against your company when we prepare the file. Company-law minimums are a separate question: an LLC has no statutory minimum capital, and a one-person company needs EGP 1,000.

Can I get investor residency through a company in Sharm El Sheikh?

Yes, through a company in the form the rules require. Since 1 April 2022, Decree 128/2022 requires a non-Egyptian investment project in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab and the Gulf of Aqaba tourism sector to be an Egyptian JSC. It sets no minimum Egyptian percentage, but changes of founders or shareholdings need security approvals, and land stays Egyptian-only.
