FAQ

Company registration documents: questions we are asked

What documents are required for company registration in Egypt for foreigners?

As of October 2026: passports of all owners and managers, a security-inquiry form for each foreign founder and manager, legalised and translated papers for anything issued abroad, a registered lease, articles of association certified and notarised, and the auditor’s acceptance. Add a bank certificate for a JSC or one-person company, and sector approvals where the activity needs them.

Do papers issued abroad have to be legalised and translated?

Yes. A foreign company’s corporate documents and any power of attorney signed abroad go into the file legalised and translated into Arabic. The legalisation route depends on the country and the document, and it is often the slowest step of the whole file, so start it first and check the chain with us before booking appointments.

Can someone register the company for me under a power of attorney?

Yes. An attorney-in-fact can file for you, but GAFI’s 2026 guide requires a foreign attorney to hold valid Egyptian residency. A power of attorney signed abroad must be legalised and translated into Arabic. The attorney does not replace the security-inquiry forms: every foreign founder and manager still files one, as of October 2026.

Can a foreigner be the manager of an Egyptian company?

Yes. Law 159/1981 sets no nationality condition for LLC managers, and GAFI’s 2026 file asks only for a security-inquiry form for each foreign manager. A JSC board of at least 3 may be of any nationality. Check your activity first: importing for trade and commercial agency follow their own rules, as of October 2026.

Does an LLC in Egypt need a bank certificate?

No. Since Law 4/2018 an LLC is exempt from the incorporation bank certificate and has no statutory minimum capital, as of October 2026. A JSC shows 10% of issued capital of at least EGP 250,000, a one-person company its full capital of at least EGP 1,000, and a branch the equivalent of EGP 5,000 in foreign currency.
