E-Invoice in Egypt:
Setup of E-Invoices and E-Receipts

The e-invoice in Egypt is mandatory for every taxpayer registered with the Egyptian Tax Authority, and in the Sharm El Sheikh area every income-tax or VAT taxpayer that sells to consumers has had to issue e-receipts since 1 November 2022. We arrange the electronic signature, code your items, connect your POS or accounting system, test it with you and check every month that your books match the documents the Tax Authority holds.

01What's included

E-invoicing in Egypt, from the first check to the monthly match

We take the set-up from "what must I issue?" to the first live document, then keep the documents and the books in step.

Position checkWhich documents you must issue (e-invoices, e-receipts or both), whether your tax card can issue them, and how your VAT status shows on each outlet's documents.
Electronic signatureEvery e-invoice is signed electronically. We prepare the certificate application with you, agree who in the business holds it and follow it up with the issuer. The certificate is a third-party cost.
Item codingEvery product and service you sell is matched to the codes the Tax Authority's system expects, so documents are not rejected for an unknown item, and kept current as your menu or price list changes.
POS and ERP integrationFor e-receipts, a POS from an approved vendor; for e-invoices, your accounting software or ERP connected to the ETA system. We help you choose and work with the vendor on the set-up.
Testing and go-liveTest documents first: VAT lines, discounts, refunds and credit notes. Then the first live documents, checked with you before the system runs on its own.
Monthly reconciliationEach month we match the documents you issued and received against your books and VAT return, and chase the supplier bills that arrived without an e-invoice.Accounting service

02Process

How we connect you to the Egypt e-invoice system and set up e-receipts

  1. 01

    Check what applies

We confirm which documents you must issue, that your tax card allows you to issue them and how VAT applies to each outlet.

One meeting at the office, or a call on WhatsApp

  2. 02

    Electronic signature

Your e-invoices are signed with an electronic signature certificate. We prepare the application with you and follow it up with the issuer until it is in hand.

Pace set by the certificate issuer

  3. 03

    Item coding

We build the list of products and services and match each one to the codes the system expects, including discounts, service lines and returns.

Grows with the size of your catalogue

  4. 04

    POS or ERP integration

Your POS from an approved vendor, or your accounting system, is connected to the Tax Authority's system, branch by branch and till by till.

Depends on the vendor and the number of cash points

  5. 05

    Testing

Test documents go through before any live one: VAT, rounding, refunds and credit notes. Rejections are fixed at this stage, not after a month of trading.

    Before the first live document

  6. 06

    Go live and monthly checks

We check the first live documents with you. After that, issued and received documents are matched to your books and VAT return every month.

Every month, alongside the VAT return

We do not promise fixed durations: certificate issuers, POS vendors and the Tax Authority's systems each set part of the pace.

08FAQ

E-invoice and e-receipt questions we hear in Sharm

What is the difference between an electronic invoice in Egypt and an e-receipt?

Both are sales documents sent electronically to the Egyptian Tax Authority. The e-invoice covers sales to businesses and, under Decree 323/2022, is mandatory for all ETA taxpayers. The e-receipt covers sales to consumers and follows ETA mandate decisions by activity and area. Many businesses in Sharm El Sheikh issue both, as of October 2026.

Do I have to issue e-receipts in Sharm El Sheikh?

Yes, if you sell to consumers and pay income tax or VAT. ETA Decision 484/2022 requires every income-tax and VAT taxpayer in the Sharm El Sheikh area that sells to consumers to issue e-receipts from 1 November 2022. That includes shops, cafés, restaurants, hotels, dive centres and clinics, whatever their size.

My shop in Sharm is below the VAT threshold. Am I still covered?

Yes, if you sell to consumers. VAT registration becomes compulsory at EGP 500,000 of turnover, but Decision 484/2022 covers income-tax taxpayers in the Sharm El Sheikh area as well as VAT-registered ones. A consumer-facing business below the VAT threshold therefore still issues e-receipts; its VAT status changes what the receipt shows, not whether it is issued.

Can I issue e-invoices with a temporary tax card?

No. The second facilitation package (Laws 148–153/2026, in force 29 July 2026) introduced an 8-month temporary tax card, and that card cannot issue e-invoices. Businesses with standard activities receive the normal 5-year card. If you will bill other companies from the start, check which card your activity receives before you open.

What happens if a supplier gives me a paper bill?

As of October 2026, costs that are not documented by an e-invoice or e-receipt are not recognised by the Egyptian Tax Authority. In practice, that bill does not reduce your taxable profit. Ask suppliers for an e-invoice before you pay, and keep a monthly list of the ones that still arrive on paper.
