FAQ

Questions about the 2026 settlement window

What is the deadline for tax dispute settlement in Egypt?

New settlement requests can be filed until 31 December 2026. Law 152/2026, published in the Official Gazette on 28 July 2026 and in force from 29 July, renewed Law 79/2016 until that date. After it, no new requests are accepted unless another law renews the window, so file early rather than in the last week of December.

Which taxes can be settled under Law 152/2026?

Seven, as of October 2026: corporate profits tax, individuals’ profits tax, salaries tax, stamp tax and development fee, sales tax and VAT, built-property tax and entertainment tax. The Real Estate Tax Authority handles the last two. Another tax or fee is probably outside the scheme, but letters use different names, so send yours to us first.

Does my dispute need to be before the Egypt tax dispute committees or a court?

Yes. The settlement committees deal with disputes already pending before an internal committee, an appeal committee or a court. An assessment you have not contested is not there yet: object first, within the statutory deadline we confirm from your copy. Whether the file can then reach the committees before 31 December 2026 depends on its dates.

Will a settlement reduce what I owe?

Nobody can promise that in advance, and the checker does not try. The outcome depends on the committee, your documents and the points in dispute. Two rules are fixed: additional tax of 20% or 40% is halved by agreement before the appeal committee, and Law 7/2025 caps late interest and additional tax at 100% of the tax.

Is the Real Estate Tax Authority’s 70% settlement still open?

No, as of 10 October 2026. The RTA’s separate built-property measures, a late-interest waiver and a 70% dispute settlement, closed on 2 October 2026, and we found no extension. Built-property tax is also on the Law 79/2016 list, so a pending built-property dispute may still go to the settlement committees until 31 December 2026.
