09FAQ

Tax return questions we hear in Sharm

When is the corporate tax return due in Egypt?

For a company with a December year-end, the corporate income tax return is due by 30 April, four months after the year closes (as of October 2026). An LLC, OPC or JSC also needs audited statements, and its ordinary general assembly must meet within three months of year-end. Deadlines falling on an official holiday are extended.

Who files an individual tax return in Egypt, and by when?

Sole traders, freelance professionals and anyone with rental income file between 1 January and 31 March for the previous year. As of October 2026, rates run from 0% on the first EGP 40,000 to 27.5% above EGP 1.2 million (Law 7/2024), and the lower bands are withdrawn above EGP 600,000 net income.

What are the penalties for filing a tax return late in Egypt?

As of October 2026, filing up to 60 days late costs a fine of EGP 3,000–50,000; beyond 60 days, EGP 50,000–2 million. Additional tax of 20% or 40% can also apply, halved by agreement before the appeal committee. Late payment carries interest at the Central Bank rate plus 2%, capped at 100% of the tax under Law 7/2025.

What changes under Egypt's simplified tax regime?

Under Law 6/2025, companies and freelance professionals with turnover up to EGP 20 million pay 0.4% to 1.5% of turnover instead of tax on profit, with a five-year lock-in. VAT returns become quarterly, payroll reduces to an annual settlement, and there are no withholding or advance payments and no inspection for five years. E-invoices and e-receipts remain compulsory.

Do I need to declare rent from my flat in Sharm El Sheikh?

Yes. As of October 2026, rent from a flat or furnished unit goes on your individual return, filed by 31 March. Tax is computed on the actual rent minus 50%, then the normal brackets, and the built-property tax you paid on that unit is credited against the income tax on that rent. We check the figures for your unit.
