How a residence file comes together
The sequence is the same for every route; step 2 is where they differ. Timing depends on the route, your papers and the authorities' review, so we give you a range once we have seen your file, never a fixed date.

Choose the purpose
We decide the route with you before anyone collects a document. Changing route halfway means rebuilding the file.

Put the purpose in order
Company registered with your role recorded, property contract registered, work permit issued, or family documents ready.

Check your current status
Your passport and your present entry or residence status are part of the file. If a permit has expired or your status has lapsed, we deal with that first, through the regularisation window where it applies.

Pay through a bank
Convert hard currency through a bank and keep the receipt. Under the 2023 rules it could be no more than 15 days old when you file; check current practice before paying.

Book and file
Appointments are booked on eres.moi.gov.eg. In Sharm El Sheikh, Google Maps lists the Police Complex (المجمع الشرطي) as the passport and visa office.

Diary the renewal
We record the expiry date and keep the purpose valid in the meantime, so the renewal is a check rather than a rescue.

Egypt residence permits: questions
How much does a residence permit cost in Egypt?
The government fees are small, a few hundred Egyptian pounds as of October 2026, paid from hard currency converted through a bank with a recent receipt. Under the 2023 rules the receipt could be no more than 15 days old. The larger cost is the purpose behind the permit: a company, a registered property or a work permit.
Is there a retirement visa or permanent residence in Egypt?
No to both, as of October 2026. Egypt has no dedicated retirement visa, and newcomers receive renewable residence for a term, not permanent residence. Retirees apply under an existing purpose: property ownership if they own a registered home, family if they are joining relatives, or tourist residence. The permit is renewed while that purpose holds.
Does an apartment in Sharm El Sheikh qualify me for residence?
It may, but not automatically. The property route relies on registered ownership, and the residence length depends on the registered USD value, with tiers confirmed at application. In Sharm, foreigners cannot own land under Decree 128/2022 and usually hold a long-term usufruct. No published rule says whether a usufruct qualifies, so we check each contract.
Do I need a work permit if I hold investor residence?
No. Holders of investor residence are exempt from the work-permit requirement, and investor residence can be renewed for the life of the project under the May 2023 regulation. Labour Law 14/2025 still requires exempt foreigners to be notified within 7 days of starting work and within 7 days of ending it. Your foreign employees need their own permits.
How do I renew an Egyptian residence permit?
A renewal is a fresh check that your purpose still holds: the company still active, the property still registered in your name, the work permit still current or the family tie unchanged. You pay the fees again through a bank, book on eres.moi.gov.eg and file. We diary the expiry date and prepare the file in good time.
